Photography Life
Well it’s been a busy couple of weeks.
It kicked off with a Craft show at Hatfield house, which meant my days were spent being incredibly polite to people even when they asked me “have you been to all these places?” which always cracks me up because I only exhibit my own work, and how else do they think I would have got the shot? That said I did meet lots of people who were genuinely interested in my work, and a few who weren’t. It’s the nature of the job - you need an incredibly thick skin to show your work and hear people’s comments, but you can’t work with one! Else your work lacks any sensitivity or emotion.
I’m also baffled by the people who think any picture that has been near Photoshop is dirty or assume anything creative has been done in Photoshop and therefore worthless. I wonder what these people think when they view a piece of abstract art. Mostly I just smile, and let them wander off.
I am now a fully fledged member of the Essex Guild of Craftsmen, and attended their AGM last week. It looks a wonderful organisation, and it was great to me with other makers and artists who are passionate about what they do. Sometimes I feel like the only person who enjoys her job! As a new recruit I had a small article written about me in local paper - Harlow Star.
I also formally opened my studio for the first time - by having an Open day on Saturday. It was a great opportunity to introduce my work to friends, family and other visitors to the studio. It was also the incentive I needed to tidy up - the joy of an artist’s studio is that you can make a mess and it doesn’t matter! Pictures of the day to follow!
